My Brother's Best Friend Is Acting Weird-Part 1

He has been coming to our house for 8 years for my brother. Last week I realized he wasn't looking at my brother at all.

My Brother's Best Friend Is Acting Weird-Part 1

Introduction

Everyone has that one person — your brother's best friend who is like family. For me, it's Leo. He has been coming to our house since we were in secondary school. He eats in our kitchen, knows where we keep the remote, even argues with my brother like they are real brothers.

I never really noticed him. He was just... Leo.

The Shift I Started Noticing

About three months ago, things changed. He started coming over even when my brother wasn't around. He would say, "Oh, is Jayden not back?" and then sit for like 10 minutes, just talking. Not to my mom. To me.

He started remembering small things. The book I said I wanted to read. The coffee I like. The day of my presentation. My brother doesn't even remember my birthday without a reminder, but Leo does.

Last Tuesday was the moment that gave me goosebumps. I was in the living room, working on my laptop. He came in, my brother wasn't home. He stood at the door for like 5 seconds just staring. Then he said, "You always bite your lip when you are focused. You have done it since you were 14."

I have known him for 8 years and he never said anything like that.

What I Did Next

I froze. I didn't know if I should act like I didn't hear it or ask him what he meant. So I just laughed awkwardly and said, "You are observing too much."

He smiled, but it wasn't his normal playful smile. It was... nervous. He said, "Maybe I have always observed too much," and left.

Since then, he has been distant. He doesn't come as often. When he does, he doesn't look at me directly. It's like he regrets saying it. And now I can't stop thinking about it. Does he actually like me? Or am I imagining everything because I am bored?

My brother has no idea. And I don't know if I should tell him.

Final Thought

Sometimes the person who has been there all along is the one who sees you the most clearly. Not the new guy in your DMs, not the stranger who compliments you. But the one who watched you grow from braces to adulthood and still chooses to stay close.

I still don't know what Leo feels. Maybe he was just being nice. Maybe it was nothing. But one thing I know — that 5-second stare changed how I see him forever. And now I catch myself waiting for the door to open, just to see if he will come again.
