CHAPTER ONE: THE BOY NOBODY BELIEVED IN
In a small village in Nigeria, there lived a young boy named Daniel.
Daniel was seventeen years old. He lived with his mother in a tiny house with a leaking roof. Whenever it rained, they had to move their belongings from one corner to another to avoid the water dripping from the ceiling.
His father had died when he was only nine years old, leaving his mother to raise him alone.
Life was extremely difficult.
Some mornings, Daniel went to school without eating breakfast. Sometimes, he had to walk several kilometres because his mother could not afford his transport fare.
Despite all these difficulties, Daniel had one big dream.
He wanted to become a wealthy businessman and build a beautiful house for his mother.
One morning, as Daniel walked to school wearing his old, torn sandals, some boys from wealthy families began laughing at him.
"Daniel! Look at your shoes!" one of them shouted.
"Are you planning to become a millionaire with those shoes?" another boy asked, bursting into laughter.
Daniel stopped walking.
He looked at his sandals, then looked at the boys.
He wanted to cry, but he refused to give them the satisfaction.
Instead, he smiled and said, "One day, you will remember my name."
The boys laughed even louder.
"Your name? Who are you? Even your family cannot afford three meals a day!"
Those words pierced Daniel's heart.
But he continued walking.
When he arrived at school, he sat quietly at the back of the classroom. His teacher noticed that something was troubling him.
After the lesson, the teacher called him.
"Daniel, what is wrong?"
Daniel lowered his head.
"Sir, I want to become successful, but everybody treats me as if I am nothing because I am poor."
The teacher looked at him and replied:
"My son, being poor is not your identity. It is your present situation. Never allow people to convince you that your future must look like your present."
Daniel listened carefully.
Those words became the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
That evening, he returned home and found his mother sitting outside their house, crying quietly.
There was no food in the house.
Daniel walked towards her and gently held her hand.
"Mummy, don't cry. I promise you that one day, I will change our story."
His mother looked at him with tears in her eyes.
"Daniel, I don't need you to become a rich man. I only want you to become a good person."
Daniel hugged her.
But deep inside his heart, he made a promise.
One day, he would build his mother a house, give her a comfortable life, and prove that poverty could not destroy his dreams.
What Daniel did not know was that the road to his success would be filled with painful sacrifices, betrayal, and a secret that would change his life forever.
