THE WICKED MOTHER

Wickedness does not pay.. a woman should love her children equally

THE WICKED MOTHER

There was once a woman called Mama Zuwaira who lived with her two children, Amina and Musa.

Musa was her son from her rich husband, but Amina was from her late husband. Because of that, Mama Zuwaira hated Amina.

Every morning, she would give Musa bread, eggs and tea. But for Amina, she would give only yesterday's cold garri and send her to the farm to work from morning till night.

If Musa broke a plate, she would say, "It's okay my son." But if Amina mistakenly broke a spoon, she would beat her and make her sleep outside without food and water.

One day, the king announced that any girl who can weave the finest cloth would marry the prince. Amina knew how to weave very well because her late mother taught her.

Mama Zuwaira did not want Amina to go. She locked Amina inside a dark room and told the prince's guards that Amina was sick. She sent Musa dressed as a girl instead.

But Musa did not know how to weave. He spoiled all the thread.

At night, Amina sang a sad song from the locked room. Her voice was so sweet that the prince followed the sound. He found her, broke the door, and saw the beautiful cloth she had woven secretly in the dark.

The prince was angry at the wicked mother. He took Amina to the palace and made her the royal weaver. She was doing good and was so happy of the person she has become.

Mama Zuwaira was left alone. Musa later ran away because he was tired of his mother's wickedness.

She now later realised her mistake and begged for amina's forgiveness and fortunately for her Amina forgave her.

*Moral of the story:* Wickedness does not pay. A mother should love all her children equally, for you will reap what you sow.
