The last signal

The last signal

Three years after the Collapse, Elena is alone in a silent, red desert. She follows fading logs to a buried relay station and discovers a weak, repeating signal still active. The message is simple and recent: “We are here. Coordinates attached. Bring what you can.” She travels four more days to the coordinates and finds a small settlement of 23 survivors in a green valley. They have rebuilt hydroponics, wind power, and a radio, and had been sending the signal for years without a reply—until Elena arrived. She chooses to stay. She helps repair systems, teach the children, and keep the signal broadcasting. The story ends with the message still going out into the vast silence, waiting for anyone else who might still be listening.
