MY HUSBAND’S SECOND WIFE WAS MY BEST FRIEND

MY HUSBAND’S SECOND WIFE WAS MY BEST FRIEND

CHAPTER 1: THE WOMAN HE BROUGHT HOME

I never knew a person could lose everything in just five minutes until that Friday evening.

I was in the kitchen preparing dinner when I heard my husband’s car drive into the compound.

I smiled.

My husband, Daniel, had been coming home late almost every day for the past few months. So seeing him home early made me happy.

I quickly wiped my hands and rushed to the living room.

But the moment I got there, I noticed he wasn’t alone.

My best friend, Sandra, was standing beside him.

I was surprised to see her because she hadn’t told me she was coming over.

“Sandra? What are you doing here?” I asked with a smile.

But she didn’t smile back.

I looked at my husband, Daniel, wondering why they both looked so uncomfortable.

“Baby, what’s going on? Is everything okay?”

Daniel loosened his tie, sat on the sofa and looked at me.

“Amara, sit down. We need to talk.”

My smile slowly disappeared.

I knew something wasn’t right.

“Is everything okay?” I asked again.

He sighed.

“There’s something I need to tell you.”

I looked at Sandra. She was holding a small handbag, and one of her hands was resting on her stomach.

“Daniel, you’re scaring me. What’s going on?”

He finally spoke.

“Her name is Sandra. She’s going to be my second wife.”

For a moment, I thought I had heard him wrongly.

I laughed nervously.

“What kind of joke is this, Daniel?”

Nobody laughed.

He looked at me and said, “I’m serious, Amara. Sandra is pregnant with my child.”

My legs suddenly became weak.

I turned towards Sandra.

She couldn’t even look me in the eyes.

“Sandra?” I whispered.

The same Sandra who had slept in my house countless times?

The same woman who called me her sister?

The same woman I had cried to whenever my marriage was going through difficult times?

I couldn’t believe it.

I turned to my husband, tears already gathering in my eyes.

“Daniel, please tell me this isn’t true.”

He stood up and said something that broke me completely.

“Amara, I’m tired of hiding. Sandra and I have been together for two years.”

Two years?

I felt like someone had poured cold water on my entire body.

Two years meant that while I was cooking for this man, praying for him and trusting him, he was sleeping with my best friend.

But what happened next was something I never expected.

Sandra walked towards me, gently touched her stomach and said:

“Amara, I’m sorry. But there’s something else you need to know.”

I looked at her with tears in my eyes.

“What else?”

She took a deep breath.

“Daniel and I are not the only ones who have been keeping secrets from you.”

My mouth went dry.

What secret could possibly be worse than this?
