My name is Kevin. I am from Kisii.
I was in love with a girl called Brenda. We met in church. She was beautiful, she was kind, and I thought she was mine forever.
When I had a small job, I used to buy her chips, soda, and airtime. I paid her fare when she came to see me. I was happy.
Then I lost my job.
At first, Brenda still called. Then the calls reduced. Then she started saying "I'm busy." Then she stopped replying.
One day I saw her status. She was in Nairobi. With another man. In a car I could never afford.
I called her. She said, "Kevin, you are a good boy, but I need a man who can take care of me. I can't suffer with you."
That night I cried like a child. My mother found me outside and said, "My son, don't cry for someone who left you when you were down. Work hard. One day she will see you on TV and regret."
I listened to my mother.
I started selling mitumba in Kisii town. Morning to evening. Rain or sun. People laughed at me. My friends called me "mama mboga boy."
But I saved. KSh 100 became KSh 1000. KSh 1000 became KSh 10,000.
Two years later, I opened my own small shop. I bought my mother a phone. I started dressing well.
Then one day, Brenda came back.
She came to my shop smiling. She said, "Kevin, I missed you. Can we talk?"
I looked at her and smiled. I said, "Brenda, thank you for leaving me. If you had stayed, I would still be broke and comfortable. Your goodbye pushed me to work."
She cried. I did not go back.
Brothers, if someone leaves you because you are broke, don't beg them. Let them go. Work hard. Let your success be your revenge.
Have you ever been left like this? Tell me in the comments.
