1. An Unexpected Encounter
Rain poured heavily over the city as Isabella hurried down the street, holding her handbag above her head.
She was already late for her interview at Blackwood Enterprises, one of the biggest companies in the country.
"Please, not today," she whispered, running towards the enormous glass building.
As she entered the lobby, she accidentally bumped into someone.
Her documents scattered across the polished marble floor.
"Can't you watch where you're going?" a deep voice demanded.
"I'm sorry. I didn't see you," Isabella replied, bending down to collect her papers.
A pair of expensive black shoes stopped in front of her.
"Look at me when I'm speaking to you."
She slowly raised her head.
Standing before her was a man whose presence seemed to command the entire room. His black suit fitted perfectly, his watch looked incredibly expensive, and his cold eyes were fixed on her.
"I'm sorry," she repeated.
He picked up one of her papers.
"Isabella Rose. Interview appointment?"
She nodded.
"You're late."
"And you're rude," she accidentally replied.
The man's eyebrows lifted.
Nobody spoke to Adrian Blackwood like that.
2. The Billionaire's Interest
Adrian stared at her for a moment.
"What's your name again?"
"Isabella. But I believe it's written on the paper you're holding."
For the first time that morning, Adrian almost smiled.
"Interesting."
He handed her the document and walked towards the elevator.
Isabella watched him leave.
"Arrogant billionaire," she whispered.
Unfortunately, she didn't know he had heard every word.
3. A Dangerous Proposal
Twenty minutes later, Isabella sat nervously inside the interview room.
The door opened.
Her heart nearly stopped.
It was him.
The rude man from the lobby.
He sat behind the enormous desk and looked through her application.
"I'm Adrian Blackwood. The owner of this company."
Isabella swallowed.
Of course. The one person she had insulted was the person who could decide whether she got the job.
He closed her file.
"I have a proposal for you."
"What kind of proposal?"
"Work directly for me. Personal assistant. Excellent salary. Accommodation included."
Isabella blinked.
"Why me?"
Adrian leaned back in his chair.
"Because you are the first person in years who hasn't tried to impress me."
She hesitated.
"There's one condition," he continued.
"What condition?"
His eyes met hers.
"You must never fall in love with me."
Isabella laughed nervously.
"Trust me, Mr Blackwood. That won't be a problem."
But Adrian knew something she didn't.
He had never been good at following his own rules.
CHAPTER TWO: THE RULES OF HIS HEART
1. A New Beginning
Isabella accepted the job because her family desperately needed the money.
Her first week was difficult. Adrian was demanding, impatient and impossible to please.
Yet beneath his cold personality, she noticed something strange.
He never smiled.
Not even once.
One evening, she found him sitting alone in his office, staring at an old photograph.
"Are you okay?" she asked softly.
"That's none of your business."
"You're right. Goodnight, Mr Blackwood."
As she turned to leave, he spoke.
"Isabella?"
She stopped.
"Thank you."
Two simple words, but they sounded unfamiliar coming from him.
2. The Forbidden Feeling
Days turned into weeks.
Their arguments became conversations. Their conversations became laughter.
And slowly, Isabella began seeing the lonely man behind the billionaire's expensive suits.
One night, Adrian found her asleep on the office couch.
He gently placed his jacket over her.
She opened her eyes.
"Mr Blackwood?"
"Go back to sleep."
"Why are you being nice to me?"
He looked away.
"Don't make me regret it."
For a moment, neither spoke.
