Chapter One: The Night Everything Changed
The rain fell heavily that Friday night as Amelia stood outside the luxurious mansion, holding a small handbag and trying to protect herself from the cold.
She had never imagined that one day she would find herself begging a man for shelter.
Three hours earlier, she had discovered that her boyfriend of four years had been cheating on her with her best friend.
But that wasn’t even the worst part.
He had stolen the money she had been saving to start her business.
With tears running down her cheeks, Amelia whispered, “God, what did I do to deserve this?”
Suddenly, a black Mercedes-Benz pulled up in front of her.
The driver’s door opened, and a tall, handsome man stepped out. He wore a black suit, an expensive wristwatch and an expression that could scare anyone.
He looked at her.
“Young lady, what are you doing in front of my house?”
Amelia quickly wiped her tears.
“I’m sorry, sir. I’ll leave.”
“Wait.”
She stopped.
He studied her for a moment before asking, “What’s your name?”
“Amelia.”
“Do you have somewhere to sleep tonight?”
She shook her head.
He sighed, opened the gate and said something she never expected.
“Come inside.”
Amelia had no idea that the stranger standing before her was one of the richest and most feared businessmen in Lagos.
And she certainly didn’t know that meeting him would change her life forever.
Chapter Two: The Stranger Behind the Mansion Doors
Amelia slowly walked into the mansion, her wet shoes leaving marks on the shiny marble floor.
She couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
The sitting room was bigger than the entire apartment she had lived in with her mother. Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling, expensive paintings decorated the walls, and everything looked like something from a billionaire’s lifestyle magazine.
“Sit down,” the handsome stranger ordered.
Amelia sat quietly on the edge of the expensive sofa.
A middle-aged woman dressed in a beautiful uniform approached them.
“Good evening, sir. Should I prepare dinner?”
“Yes, Grace. And get some dry clothes for her.”
“Certainly, sir.”
Amelia looked at him nervously.
“Thank you so much, sir. I promise I won’t disturb you. I’ll leave first thing tomorrow morning.”
He loosened his tie and stared at her.
“Do you always thank strangers without knowing their names?”
She shook her head.
“I’m sorry. What’s your name, sir?”
“Alexander Williams.”
Her eyes widened slightly.
Alexander Williams?
Even someone who knew nothing about business had heard that name. He was one of the youngest billionaires in Nigeria, the owner of several companies and luxury hotels.
“You’re… Alexander Williams?” she asked.
He raised an eyebrow.
“Is there another one?”
Amelia quickly looked away.
“I’m sorry.”
For the first time that evening, he smiled.
A few minutes later, Grace returned with a beautiful pink silk dress.
“Madam, this is for you.”
Amelia smiled politely.
“Thank you.”
After changing, she returned downstairs. Alexander was sitting in the living room, scrolling through his phone.
“Come here,” he said.
She approached him slowly.
“I have a question for you, Amelia.”
“Yes, sir?”
“Why were you crying outside my gate?”
Her eyes immediately filled with tears.
She tried to hold them back, but the memories came rushing in.
“My boyfriend betrayed me. He cheated on me with my best friend, stole my money and threw me out.”
Alexander’s expression changed.
“Your boyfriend?”
She nodded.
He placed his phone on the table.
“What’s his name?”
“Daniel.”
Alexander went silent for a moment.
Then he picked up his phone and made a call.
“Michael, I need you to investigate someone for me. His name is Daniel. I want everything you can find.”
Amelia looked confused.
“Sir, why are you doing this?”
Alexander looked directly into her eyes.
“Because nobody gets to destroy someone innocent and walk away smiling.”
But just as Amelia was about to respond, Alexander’s phone rang again.
He answered.
“What?”
A familiar female voice came through the speaker.
“Alexander, darling. I’m coming over tonight. We need to talk about our wedding.”
Amelia froze.
Wedding?
Alexander looked at Amelia, then at the phone.
“Not tonight, Victoria.”
Victoria laughed.
“Don’t tell me you’re hiding another woman in that house.”
There was silence.
Then Alexander said something that left Amelia speechless.
“Actually, Victoria, there’s someone here you need to meet.”
Chapter Three: The Fiancée Who Wanted Her Gone
The following morning, Amelia woke up to the sound of someone shouting downstairs.
“Where is she? I know she’s here!”
Amelia quickly sat up in bed.
She recognized the voice immediately. It was Victoria, Alexander’s fiancée.
She slowly walked downstairs, still wearing the pink silk dress Grace had given her.
Victoria stood in the middle of the living room, wearing a designer outfit, expensive jewellery and a furious expression.
The moment she saw Amelia, her eyes widened.
“So you’re the girl?”
Amelia looked confused.
“Good morning, ma.”
Victoria laughed sarcastically.
“Good morning? You must be very comfortable here, sleeping in another woman’s man’s house.”
Amelia immediately shook her head.
“No, please. It’s not what you think. He only helped me because I had nowhere to go last night.”
Victoria moved closer.
“Listen carefully, little girl. Whatever you’re planning, forget it. Alexander is my future husband.”
Before Amelia could respond, a deep voice interrupted them.
“Victoria!”
Alexander walked into the living room, adjusting his wristwatch.
“What exactly are you doing?”
Victoria turned around immediately.
“Alexander, darling! I came to see you, but I found this girl sleeping in your house.”
“Her name is Amelia.”
“Oh, so you’ve already learned her name?”
Alexander ignored her comment.
“Amelia is my guest. I expect you to respect her.”
Victoria laughed bitterly.
“Respect her? Alexander, are you serious? You barely allow anyone into this house!”
He looked at her coldly.
“That’s enough, Victoria.”
But Victoria wasn’t finished.
She turned towards Amelia and pointed a finger at her.
“Enjoy your stay while it lasts. You won’t be here for long.”
She picked up her handbag and stormed out.
Amelia stood quietly, feeling embarrassed.
“I’m sorry, sir. I think I should leave. I don’t want to cause problems between you and your fiancée.”
Alexander walked closer.
“Look at me, Amelia.”
She slowly raised her head.
“You haven’t caused any problems. Victoria needs to understand that she cannot control every decision I make.”
Amelia nodded.
But before she could say anything, Alexander’s phone rang.
It was Michael, his personal assistant.
“Sir, I’ve completed the investigation you requested.”
Alexander answered immediately.
“What did you find?”
Michael hesitated.
“Sir, there’s something you need to know. Daniel isn’t just an ordinary man. He’s connected to your family’s biggest business rival.”
Alexander’s face changed.
“What?”
“And sir… there’s something else. Daniel has been asking questions about Amelia’s family.”
Alexander slowly turned towards Amelia.
For the first time, he realized that bringing her into his mansion might have put both of them in danger.
