Part 4: The Halvorsen Boat
Mara went to see old Ingrid Halvorsen, the last survivor of the boat Tobias had saved. Ingrid's hands shook as she poured tea.
"He didn't just send us home," she said. "He walked out on the breakwater with his lantern, in that fog, to light our way. The tide took him on the way back." She looked up. "He never told you? He told us all he had to be back before the fog lifted, because you'd be waiting."
Mara pressed her hand to her mouth. The unfinished sentence finally made sense. Promised Mara I'd be back.
