Chapter 2: The Reason Behind the Marriage
I couldn't believe what I had just heard.
Marriage?
To Daniel Anderson?
Of all the men in the world, why him?
"Dad, you can't be serious!" I shouted.
My father rubbed his forehead. "Amara, please. Just listen to me."
"Listen to what? You're asking me to marry the one person I hate the most!"
Daniel chuckled.
"Trust me, princess. You're not exactly my dream wife either."
I turned towards him angrily.
"Then reject the marriage!"
He leaned back in his chair.
"Unfortunately, I can't."
"Why?" I demanded.
His smile disappeared.
"Because our families have already signed the agreement."
I looked at my father in disbelief.
"What agreement?"
My father finally spoke.
"Our company is in serious financial trouble. The Anderson family has agreed to help us, but there's one condition..."
I swallowed.
"What condition?"
Daniel stood up, adjusted his expensive wristwatch and looked straight at me.
"Marry me."
I felt my whole world collapse.
"You're both unbelievable!"
I ran upstairs, tears filling my eyes.
A few minutes later, I heard a knock.
"Go away!" I shouted.
The door opened.
Daniel walked in.
"What do you want?" I asked coldly.
He closed the door behind him.
"We need to talk."
"I have nothing to say to you."
He moved closer but kept his distance.
"Listen carefully, Amara. I didn't ask for this marriage either."
"Then why did you agree?"
He stared at me for a few seconds.
"Because there's something you don't know about our families."
I frowned.
"What are you talking about?"
He looked towards the door before speaking.
"Your father isn't telling you the whole truth."
My heart began to race.
"What truth?"
Daniel took a deep breath.
"Your father and mine made this agreement long before we were born."
I stared at him.
"That's impossible."
He gave me a strange look.
"Believe whatever you want. But after our wedding, you'll understand everything."
He turned towards the door.
"One more thing, Amara."
I looked up.
"Don't fall in love with me. I promise you, this marriage isn't going to be a fairytale."
And with that, he walked out.
I sat on my bed, completely confused.
What exactly were our fathers hiding? And why did Daniel look so afraid when he mentioned our families?
