Tampa Citibank Shooting: Security Guard Kills Suspect After Woman Dies

Security Guard Kills Suspect After Woman Is Fatally Shot on Tampa Citibank Campus

A woman has been killed and a suspected gunman has died following a shooting at a Citibank office complex near Tampa, Florida, on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.

The incident prompted a major law enforcement response after authorities received reports of an active shooting at the business campus, which accommodates thousands of employees.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, deputies received multiple emergency calls reporting gunfire shortly after noon. Officers quickly responded to the scene as employees and other individuals attempted to move to safety.

How the Shooting Happened

Preliminary information from investigators indicates that the suspect drove a four-door sedan through a fenced section of the property before crashing into an outdoor seating area where people were having lunch.

After leaving the vehicle, the suspect reportedly approached a woman with a rifle and fatally shot her.

The situation subsequently escalated when the suspect entered a nearby building, where an armed security guard employed by Citibank confronted him.

Authorities said the two exchanged gunfire inside the building's cafeteria. The security guard shot the suspect, who was later transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Hillsborough County officials praised the security guard for intervening and preventing what could potentially have become a more serious incident.

Four People Hospitalised Following the Incident

In addition to the woman who lost her life, four other people were treated at a hospital for injuries that authorities described as non-life-threatening.

Investigators have not confirmed whether those individuals were injured by gunfire or during the vehicle crash.

The scale of the emergency response reflected the seriousness of the situation. Approximately 367 law enforcement personnel, including specialised units, were deployed to the property.

At the time of the shooting, around 3,200 Citibank employees were reportedly present at the campus.

Authorities Investigating Possible Motive

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister described the incident as a suspected targeted attack based on preliminary information.

However, investigators have not established the reason behind the shooting or confirmed whether the suspect and the female victim knew each other.

Authorities are continuing to interview witnesses and employees to establish the events leading up to the attack.

The identities of both the deceased woman and the suspect had not been publicly released at the time of the initial reports, pending identification procedures and notification of their families.

Officials also confirmed that the campus had been cleared after the emergency response.

Citibank Responds to the Incident

Citibank acknowledged the incident at its Tampa-area property and confirmed that it was working with law enforcement authorities.

The shooting caused considerable disruption as employees were evacuated and families sought information about their relatives working at the complex.

Nearby educational institutions also issued precautionary safety instructions while authorities worked to secure the surrounding area.

The investigation continued as law enforcement personnel processed the extensive crime scene.

Investigation Continues

Although the armed security guard's intervention brought the immediate threat to an end, several questions surrounding the shooting remain unanswered.

Investigators are working to establish the suspect's motive, the circumstances surrounding the woman's death and whether anyone else was directly targeted.

The incident has also drawn attention to workplace security and the challenges of protecting large corporate campuses with thousands of employees and multiple public-access facilities.

Authorities are expected to provide further information as the investigation progresses.

As investigations continue, questions remain about the motive behind the attack and the security measures in place at large corporate workplaces. What do you think can be done to prevent similar tragedies and make workplaces safer for everyone?
