Chapter One: The Marriage Nobody Expected

Daniel Williams was one of the richest businessmen in the country. He owned hotels, shopping malls and several companies. Women admired him, but Daniel had one problem: he trusted nobody.

After his fiancée betrayed him with his closest business partner, he promised himself never to fall in love again.

Meanwhile, 23-year-old Grace worked as a housemaid in his mansion. She was quiet, hardworking and respectful. Despite coming from a poor family, she never allowed her circumstances to change her character.

One evening, Daniel returned home earlier than usual and found Grace sitting on the kitchen floor, crying while holding a photograph.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

Grace quickly wiped her tears.

"Nothing, sir. I'm fine."

Daniel looked at the photograph. It showed a young woman standing beside Grace.

"Who is she?"

Grace lowered her head.

"My mother, sir. She's in the hospital, and the doctors say she needs an operation. I don't know where to get the money."

For the first time in years, Daniel felt sorry for someone.

"How much do you need?"

Grace mentioned the amount, but Daniel simply nodded and walked away.

The following morning, Grace received a phone call from the hospital. Her mother's operation had been paid for.

She immediately rushed to Daniel's office.

"Sir, was it you? Did you pay my mother's hospital bills?"

Daniel didn't look up from his documents.

"Consider it a gift. Now go back to work."

Grace couldn't stop crying. She thanked him repeatedly.

Weeks passed, and something unexpected happened. Daniel began noticing Grace's kindness. Unlike the women who surrounded him for his money, she treated him like an ordinary human being.

One night, Daniel called her into his office.

"Grace, I want to ask you something."

"Yes, sir?"

"Would you marry me?"

Grace stared at him in disbelief.

"Sir, please don't joke about something like that."

"I'm serious. I want you to become my wife."

"But why me? I'm only your housemaid."

Daniel finally looked into her eyes.

"Because you're the only person in this house who has never asked me for anything."

After days of confusion, Grace agreed.

Their wedding shocked everyone. Daniel's family refused to accept her, especially his mother, who believed Grace was only interested in his wealth.

But the biggest shock came on their wedding night.

Daniel handed Grace a small envelope.

"There's something you need to know before we begin our marriage."

Grace opened it.

Inside was a photograph of her mother, taken more than twenty years earlier.

Her hands began to shake.

"Where did you get this?"

Daniel stood up and locked the bedroom door.

"Grace, I didn't marry you because I fell in love with you."

He paused.

"I married you because your mother knows the truth about my father's death."

Grace's eyes filled with tears.

"What are you talking about?"

Daniel moved closer and whispered:

"Your mother was the last person to see my father alive. And according to the police report, she was the person who killed him."

Grace dropped the photograph.

Then her phone rang.

It was her mother.

With a trembling voice, she answered.

"Grace, listen carefully. Run away from that house. The man you married is not Daniel Williams."
